Apolipoproteins are tiny fat particles floating around in the blood. Increased amounts of Apo A-1 or B means high risk of clogged arteries and heart attack. This test should be particularly helpful for patients taking cholesterol-lowering drugs. Many studies show that LDL cholesterol levels aren’t sufficient in predicting heart disease risk in these patients. For them, measuring Apo B and the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio may be better.
